Friendship Home holds groundbreaking ceremony for new facility

NORWELL, MA. (December 28, 2009)—Friendship Home held their official groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the beginning of construction for their new facility. Acella Construction has been handling preconstruction for the 14,000sf facility, and will continue to provide construction services for the project. Friendship Home provides respite care and will include office space and an activity center where people with developmental disabilities can participate in day or evening activities. Members of Friendship Home can stay in the residence hall for periods of up to two weeks, giving them a safe and stimulating environment, and providing needed respite for their caregivers. Friendship Home was begun 10 years ago by Norwell residents Wilma Goodhue and Joan Mullare, both who have adult children with developmental disabilities. The activity center will also serve as a central location for the group's Friendship Clubs that have about 65 members who meet in Quincy, Duxbury, and Norwell for social activities and community service projects.
Construction will be completed in the spring of 2010. The project was designed by David H. Dunlap Associates, located in Norwell, MA.
